TULSA Procedure
TRANSURETHRAL ULTRASOUND ABLATION
What is the TULSA Procedure?
TULSA is an acronym for Transurethral Ultrasound Ablation. This procedure targets prostate tissue in a minimally invasive way. It uses directional ultrasound to produce extreme temperatures to ablate, or destroy, the targeted prostate tissue.
We can perform this procedure in an existing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) suite by integrating the new TULSA-PRO®. Using this new procedure, our physicians are able to visually monitor the prostate throughout the procedure by combining real-time imaging with robotically driven, directional, thermal ultrasound. The machine delivers physician-directed and specific destruction of the whole gland or partial prostate tissue.
TULSA is free of radiation, needs no incisions, is performed as an outpatient procedure, and has been cleared by the FDA. The procedure is fully customizable depending on the physician’s diagnosis and the patient’s needs and desired outcomes.
TULSA Benefits
-
With the TULSA Procedure, your physician has the ability to avoid the nerve bundles and structures surrounding the prostate, lowering the risk of side effects and complications.
-
TULSA is performed in a single session lasting only a handful of hours. You will not have repeat visits, so you take less time off work and spend less time in the hospital.
-
Should your prostate require care again in the future, you can repeat the TULSA procedure or retain access to other types of prostate care
-
Most patients recover quickly, with baseline erectile and urinary functions returning in roughly three months.
-
TULSA is customizable and personalized to the patient’s anatomy and tissue.
-
TULSA allows physicians to control clinically significant diseases locally. PSA is significantly reduced, and follow-up biopsies find low rates of residual cancer.
